Siddara Betta

Siddara Betta (Hill of Saints) is a unique destination that blends adventure trekking with spiritual heritage. The hill is famous for its natural caves, boulder formations, and its rich variety of medicinal herbs and plants. A moderately challenging trek leads to the cave temple of Lord Shiva at the top. The caves are cool, narrow, and filled with natural springs that run year-round, creating a mystical atmosphere. It is a popular destination for trekkers, cave explorers, and birdwatchers.

The trek is highly adventurous, requiring scrambling over giant rocks and squeezing through tight, dark cave passes. Inside the cave temple, water continuously drips from the ceiling, forming a sacred pool where pilgrims take a holy dip. The dense vegetation along the trek provides cool shade, keeping the air fresh and clean.

Local legends say that hundreds of saints did deep meditation in these cave systems, leaving behind an energy that can still be felt. Traditional medicine men (Vaidyas) visit the hill to gather roots and leaves for Ayurvedic treatments, making the hill a vital natural reserve.

Do not pluck leaves, pull roots, or damage the flora. Many species are rare, endangered medicinal herbs.

Do not explore deep caves alone or without a flashlight. Always hire a local village guide to support the local economy.

Do not carry loose food packets in your hands, as groups of monkeys wait along the steps.

Avoid writing names or carving on the cave walls and boulders. Maintain their natural look.

Located in Koratagere taluk, 29 km Northeast of Tumakuru. From Tumakuru, take direct buses heading to Koratagere and get off at the Siddarabetta cross road.

Running shoes with good grip are essential due to smooth, wet boulders inside the caves. Carry a flashlight for cave exploring.

Local village guides wait at the base. Hiring them is highly recommended to safely navigate the winding cave paths.

The entry gates are closed by 5:30 PM. Camping on the hilltop overnight is strictly prohibited by the forest department.
